1、 Principle of UV disinfection
Ultraviolet radiation is an electromagnetic radiation that can kill microorganisms inside cells. Ultraviolet rays have a good killing effect on bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. In addition, ultraviolet radiation can also damage the DNA of pathogens, leading to their death or inactivation.
2、 UV light source
UV light sources are usually divided into three types: UVA, UVB, and UVC. Among them, UVA and UVB have weak bactericidal effects on microorganisms such as bacteria, while only UVC has strong bactericidal, antiviral, and antifungal abilities. Therefore, when disinfecting green plants, we should choose UVC light sources.
3、 Green plant disinfection steps
1. Prepare a UV disinfection lamp, which can be in two forms: desktop or plug-in. It should be noted that do not directly observe the UV lamp tube, and do not expose it to humans or animals.
2. Move the green plants outdoors or in enclosed rooms to ensure that no people or animals are present.
3. Turn on the ultraviolet lamp and illuminate the surface of the green plant. It should be noted that ultraviolet light should be able to shine on all surfaces of the green plant and ensure that the exposure time on each side is the same.
4. The irradiation time varies depending on the size of the green plant and the power of the light source. It is recommended to irradiate for about half an hour.
After disinfection, turn off the UV light and wait for the light source to cool before moving the green plants.
4、 Precautions
1. UV lamps have a certain level of radiation, so do not directly irradiate humans or animals.
2. Green plants may be exposed to certain levels of radiation during the disinfection process, and prolonged exposure to radiation can have a negative impact on their growth. Therefore, it is important not to perform frequent disinfection operations.
When the UV light source ages, the UV output intensity will gradually weaken, and the disinfection effect will decrease. It is necessary to replace the lamp tube in a timely manner.
In short, ultraviolet disinfection is a relatively simple and effective disinfection method that can effectively kill microorganisms without any chemical residues. However, it should be noted that there is always a risk of UV radiation from light sources, and relevant precautions should be followed during operation to protect oneself and the green plants at home.
